GATHER YE ROSEBUDS exhibition

An exhibition by Kate Piekutowski and Bethany van Rijswijk

A collaborative exhibition exploring our relationship to the folk art and tales of Europe, in particular its flower-worshipping Eastern lands. Through a bright and varied garland of mediums we will engage with women’s everyday and seasonal rituals, their folk lore and customs, and the arts and crafts of the home. Through a combination of ancient and modern artistic techniques, ranging from metal-work to collage, we will pay homage to women’s artistic practices within the rich European folk tradition.

New ideas and sketches

Here are some images from the journals I have been working on. Its been a slow process working on my next exhibition but my mind has been exploding with new ideas! Its really exciting as this next upcoming exhibition is more experimental.

Here are a few photographs from the art residency at NPS. They were quite exciting images and hope there are more to come. I use them predominantly for composition, to then work into etching and drawing but a few of these will be used for digital collage and layering.

Its been one of the most wonderful months of my life here in New Zealand. I have learnt so many things about myself and who I want to be as an artist. It has inspired me, given me hope and also shown me new ways of thinking. I feel excited to pursue new adventures and seek new goals and new themes in my work! Feeling inspired by the hills of the Wairarapa

Art Residency at Mt Bruce, New Zealand 2015

Currently I am on an art residency at Mt Bruce which is about a couple hours north of Wellington in New Zealand. Its beautiful here, the flowers are out and the calves and the mothers are roaming in the fields. We have visited little water holes, abandoned old bridges and dipped our feet into fresh water streams. To say the least, it has been a journey of beauty and inspiration.
